Kadla curry/Black chickpea curry/black channa curry

Kadala curry
Kadla curry also known as black chickpea is a famous combination with puttu in Kerala.  This is one of the healthiest and the heaviest breakfast i have ever had. once you have this for breakfast , you wont feel hungry till evening. Whenever my mom prepares this dish the curry just vanishes in no time. I find this curry to be very addictive because once you start having it you don't stop eating it. Thats my experience.
Kadla curry can also be served with chapathi, Kerala parota and of course rice. so here I am sharing my mother in laws famous kadla curry. Trust me you will love this dish.

Ingredients:
Chickpea - 2 cups
Green chilly - 2
Tomato - 1
Shallots- 7 nos
Turmeric powder - a pinch
Red chilly powder - 11/2 tsp
Meat Masala - 1 tsp
Curry leaves - 2 sprig
Garlic cloves - 4 nos
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
Corriander powder - 1 1/2 tsp

Method:
1. In a  pressure cooker boil the black chickpea with red chilly powder and  turmeric powder  with the cooker filled with 5 cups of water.(you can keep it for 3 to 4 whistles)
2. In a deep pan pour some coconut oil, splutter the mustard seeds and add the crushed garlic. sought it for bout 30 seconds.
3. Add the shallots, slit green chilly and  and fry them till they become translucent in colour.
4. Add red chilly powder, coriander powder and meat masala powder. Sought for few seconds.
5. Add in the sliced tomato and keep the pan covered for about 3 minutes.
6. Add the cooked chickpea with  pressure cooked black chickpea water.
7. Cook for about 15 minutes or till the water is all absorbed.
Garnish with Coriander leaves.

The kadla/black chickpea curry is ready to be served with puttu
