Hot n Spicy Beef

To Marinate
  • Beef: 1 kg (cut into small cubes)
  • Red Chilli flakes : 3 tsp or to your
    torelance level
  • Crushed Garlic : 2 tbsp
  • Crushed Ginger : 2 tbsp
  • Vinegar : 2 tbsp
  • Curry leaves : 1 sprig
  • Salt to taste

  • For Sauteing
  • Shallots: 1 1/2 cup (thinly sliced)
  • Green chilies : 4 nos (split length-wise)
  • Curry Leaves : 2-3 sprig
  • Coconut Slices: 1/2 cup (Chopped)
  • Oil : 1/2 cup

  • Spices
  • Freshly Crushed Peppercorns : 1/2 tsp
  • Clove : 4 nos
  • Cardamom : 4 pods
  • Fennel seeds : 1/2 tbsp
  • Cinnamon Stick : 1" piece

  • Hot n Spicy Beef / Chili beef Recipe
    Hot n Spicy Beef recipe is a really spicy dish, typically found in toddy shops(Kallu shaap / Kerala style pubs). This is a perfect dish that goes well with drinks, main course like rice / chappatis etc

    Method of Preparation :
    1. Wash and chop beef to small sized cubes; drain it and set it aside.
    2. Heat a pan on a medium flame till hot. Reduce the flame and roast the ingredients listed above 'Spices' on the pan. Stir the spices till you get the aroma. Once the spices begin to darken, remove it from pan and keep it aside to cool.Grind the spices to a coarse powder
    3. Marinate the beef with the above roasted spices and the above listed ingredients "To marinate '
    4. Pressure cook the marinated beef pieces without adding any water for about 2-3 whistles or put the above marinated beef piece into a large deep vessel without adding any water and cook on a medium flame till the meat is tender. The beef will cook in its own juice and add to the flavour.
    5. Once the meat is tender, cook uncovered in a medium-low flame till all water in the beef has evaporated.
    6. In another pan, add 3 tbsp of oil and fry the chopped coconut to light brown color. Put the coconut into paper towel to absorb the excess oil.
    7. In the same pan add the remaining oil and add finely chopped shallots and green chilies and saute until it turns into translucent / slight brown in color. Add the curry leaves and saute for couple of minutes.
    8. Add beef from step 5. Roast it on slow flame. Keep stirring till it is dark brown.
    9. Add fried coconut from step 6 and mix well.
    Note: This is a spicy dish. Use chili / pepper according to taste.
